Active FX with the CO2 Lumenis Laser
CO2 Ablative Laser procedures have proven to be safe and effective treatments for a variety of skin conditions. Although most commonly used in skin resurfacing, the ability to adjust the ablative area, depth of penetration, and other parameters make it an ideal treatment to address fine lines, dyschromia, texture, deep wrinkles, and scars. Depending upon the patient’s desire, multiple targets can be addressed during a single appointment.
How does it work?
As an ablative tool, small areas of skin are removed, leaving behind a matrix of healthy, unaffected skin and channels into the skin surface. Your practitioner sets the ratio of ablated to non-ablated skin, depth of removal and other parameters to target the patients desired outcome. Each column of ablative skin reduces skin volume as the deep heating stimulates immediate collagen contraction and long-term remodeling.
Down Time?
Depending upon the treatment chosen, the patient biology, and other factors, down time can vary from several days to several weeks. Deep FX and Total FX treatments require the longest recover time. The following is a general guide to recovery time:
Active FX: 4 days
Deep/Total FX: 14 days *** Several days following this procedure significant redness and peeling occurs as part of the process. This can be significant, and patients typically limit social interactions until this stage of the healing process is completed.
Preparation for Treatment:
Following facial cleaner, a topical numbing cream is applied no less than 30 minutes prior to the procedure.
Contraindications for Treatment:
Patients should not be considered for laser resurfacing procedures if they:
• Have taken Acutane (isotretinoin) within the past 12 months.
• Have a history of keloid information
