Dysport
Not only are frown lines a result of aging, but they are also caused by repetitive facial movements. Recurring movements of the facial skin, such as squinting or frowning, form lines between the eyebrows, over time. In some individuals, they can be much more pronounced. Dysport corrects the appearance of these lines without altering the appearance of the entire face.
What is Dysport?
Dysport is a simple, effective, non-surgical treatment that works by relaxing facial muscles, thereby reducing and smoothing away frown-lines and wrinkles. It received FDA approval in 2009.
Similar to the protein found in BOTOX, Dysport is a form of botulinum type A. Dysport temporarily immobilizes muscles which cause facial wrinkles. Dysport diffuses a bit farther than Botox from the injection point: one to three centimeters compared to BOTOX’s one centimeter, which means fewer injections are needed when using Dysport vs. BOTOX.
A single injection of Dysport in each of the five points between and above the brows blocks the signal from the nerve to the muscles. This helps prevent contractions that cause frown lines by temporarily reducing muscle activity. The results from Dysport can last up to four months.
Dysport vs. BOTOX
Although dosing and pricing are different, Dysport is very similar to BOTOX. How Long Does a Dysport Treatment Last?
Dysport’s results are typically visible within 24 to 48 hours. Dysport contains less protein than Botox, which means the body should break it down more slowly. The studies are mixed, however, about whether Dysport lasts longer than BOTOX.
Dysport Side Effects
The most common side effects are temporary soreness or mild bruising around the injection site. There may also be a slight headache, and if the drug diffuses too widely, there could be drooping in one area. Pregnant and breastfeeding women and those with a neuro-muscular disease should not use Dysport. For complete side effects, please ask your doctor.
